International vs domestic PhD students: What's the difference?

Monday 9th July 2012

Since the introduction of the “Domestic Fees for International PhDs” initiative, mapping the lifecourse trajectories of the international PhD graduates is of interest to the GLSNZ team and Ministry of Education. Every international PhD student in the country was invited to participate in the GLSNZ and this report focuses on the future plans and financial situations of international PhD students compared to domestic PhD students. Of particular interest is the finding that half of all international PhD students indicated that they planned to work in New Zealand over the next two years (compared to approximately 80% of domestic PhD students) and similar percentages (approximately 44%) of international and domestic PhD students planned to work overseas.

The full report, written in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, is provided below.
